~Part VIII: Final Judgment~

[The group is stunned by Gades' words. Selan turns to Maxim]

Selan: Maxim...

Maxim: I guess there was one tough Sinistral we didn't know about.

Artea: Looks like the real enemies are this Erim and Daos.

Guy [turns to Maxim]: On top of that, they're on Doom Island! Blast it!

Artea: We can't even get close to Doom Island because of that turbulence.

Lisa: We might be able to take care of the turbulence.

[The whole group turns to Lisa]

Maxim Are you sure!?

Lisa: Maxim, if you can break the seal of the super beings, it might be possible.

Maxim: Does the turbulence have something to do with the seal?

Lisa [points to the portal]: Just stand over there. The Divine Armor is inside there.

Maxim: Ok.

[Maxim steps on the portal, and a strange ringing sound emanates]

Lisa: The seal is breaking!

[The seal breaks and the Divine Armor is bestowed upon Maxim. Lisa approaches him]

Lisa: With this resonating sound, all will be fine.

Maxim: What do you mean?

Lisa: As long as I stand here, the ringing will continue. When all three slates in the three towers start to resonate...

Maxim: What'll happen then?

Lisa: The resonance will create an enormous power that could help us blow away the island's turbulence.

Maxim [startled]: But if you do that, you could...

Lisa [raising a hand]: Please say no more. I cannot defeat Daos, but I want to help, if I can. Please go. Please go and defeat Daos.

Maxim: Thanks. I'll do just that.

[Lisa took Maxim's position in front of the slate] 


[The group left the tower and returned to the elder's house in Narvick. They meet with the elder once more]

Maxim: I am sorry. I left Lisa in the tower.

Elder: No, you did not leave her. Lisa stayed there. She is also fighting. We cannot waste Lisa's feeling. Marie, come over here please.

[The second girl emerges from the room]

Elder: Would you go?

Marie: Yes.

[Marie goes to Maxim]

Marie: Maxim, my name is Marie. Would you take me to Strahda Island?

Maxim: Yes.

Marie: The island's northeast of here. Let's go!


[The group took Marie and left Narvick. They flew northeast to the Strahda Island Tower. After a long, hard fight, they reached the slate on the top floor. The symbol of a helmet was engraved upon it. As Maxim approached the slate, evil energy swept in and the brooding form of Amon appeared before them]

Amon: It's time for you to disappear. [talks through clenched teeth] You people have begun to annoy me!


[The long dreaded battle against Amon began. After a tough fight, the Master of Chaos fell before the group. Without a word, he retreated back to Doom Island]

Guy: Did you get him!?

Artea [shakes his head]: I don't think so. He's probably still alive.

Maxim [frustrated]: This battle will not end until we defeat Daos and Erim and destroy Doom Island.

[Marie walks near the portal in front of the slate]

Marie: Please stand over there, Maxim.

Maxim: Ok.

[Maxim stepped on the portal. The slate began to resonate and granted Maxim the Divine Helmet]

Marie: I feel Lisa's energy. Please, please go quickly and be careful.

[Marie took Maxim's place in front of the slate]


[The group left the tower and returned to the elder in Narvick]

Elder: Doom Island could start to move any minute. Clare, come over here please.

[The last of the three girls came from the room]

Elder: You are the last one. I'm counting on you.

Clare: I know.

[Clare goes to Maxim]

Clare: My name is Clare. Maxim, would you take me to the tower on Kamirno Island?

Maxim: Yes.

Clare: The island is northwest of here. We should hurry.

[Clare joined the group, and Maxim got some parting words from the elder]

Elder: The final battle nears. If there's anything you've forgotten, now is the time. Please look after Clare for me, Maxim. Did the super beings who gave our ancestors special armor expect that someone like Daos would appear?


[The group left Narvick and flew northwest to the Kamirno Island Tower. They fight their way to the slate at the top. This one had a symbol of a shield engraved upon it. All seemed quiet, too quiet]

Maxim: No one seems to be here...

Artea: I don't feel any energy, either.

Selan: But something's fishy.

Guy: We can't just wonder about it all day long.

Maxim: You're right.

[Clare comes around and stands by the portal]

Clare: Well, Maxim?

[Maxim stood on the portal. The seal cracked and broke, and Maxim received the Divine Shield. When he did, a familiar booming voice is heard]

Voice: I see you've girded yourself completely at last.

[One second later, Daos materialized before the group]

Maxim: Da...Daos!

Daos: I was unable to reach the divine armaments before because of the seal. [smiles darkly] But if I destroy you now, they will become mine, won't they.

Maxim: Sorry. It doesn't work that way!

Daos [pointing to Maxim's armor]: Those armaments are perfect for he who can handle Dual Blade. [sticks his thumb into his chest] And that's me.

[Dual Blade materialized and floated to Daos' hand]

Maxim [longing for the sword]: Dual Blade...

Daos [bellowing]: You are not chosen! You are unworthy of wearing them! Say your farewells!

[Dark thunder crashes down and levels everyone. Maxim rises and approaches Daos]

Daos [arrogant smirk]: I see you still have some energy left... Forget it. It'd be a waste of my time.

[A short blast of Daos' energy downed Maxim once more. However, he got up again]

Selan [weakly]: Maxim...

Maxim: Don't worry Selan. He can't get me!

[Maxim approached the now enraged Daos]

Daos: You imbecile!!!! I shall tear you apart!!!!

[Daos gathered his energy into one deadly wave. When Amon had done so in the Divine Shrine, Maxim backed away in fear. But now, Maxim stood his ground against the Lord of the Sinistrals]

Maxim [defiantly]: That's what you think!

[Maxim created his own energy wave. Before either could strike, Dual Blade faded from Daos' grasp]

Daos [shocked]: Wh...what the...!?

[Dual Blade floated from Daos and towards Maxim. He and Daos withdraw their energies]

Maxim: Dual Blade...

Daos [wide eyed]: What's going on...?

[Clare approached Maxim and the floating sword]

Clare: Dual Blade chose you as its true owner.

Daos [in denial]: It cannot be...

Clare [ignoring Daos]: There, Maxim. Hold the blade in your hand.

[Maxim steps forth to wield the blade. Its energy joins with his]

Maxim: Whoa! The power, the energy. It's overwhelming!

Daos [holding his head]: This can't be happening...

Maxim: Daos!!

Daos [flush with fury]: I don't accept this! I won't concede your power to hold Dual Blade!

[Daos retreats to his shrine, and the rest of the group rejoins Maxim]

Maxim: Is everyone alright?

Artea: Yes. But Daos disappeared!

Guy [alarmed]: This isn't good! He might run off to destroy another city!

Clare: Don't worry about that. We won't let Doom Island go anywhere.

Maxim [turns to Clare]: Can you do that?

Clare: I feel stronger power from the slate. With this, I think we can stop the motion of Doom Island. I also feel the auras of Lisa and Marie. They must be thinking the same thing.

Maxim: But will you be alright controlling such energy?

Clare: There's no time to think. Doom Island has begun to move. Please step aside.

[The group moved aside so Clare could stand on the portal]

Clare: Lisa? Marie? Can you hear me? It's time to combine all our power.


[Atop the Strahda Island Tower, Marie answers the call]

Marie: Now is the time. May our wishes be heeded.

[Atop the Shuman Island Tower, Lisa responds to Clare]

Lisa: I entrust everything to you now.

[The Shuman Island Tower beamed like a lighthouse. A beam shot to the Strahda Island Tower, which did the same. One more beam fired from Strahda to Kamirno Island Tower, which beamed as well. Kamirno then shot a beam towards Shuman, and the three energies became one. The combined energy created a huge black sphere which engulfed Doom Island, holding it in place]


[Inside his shrine on Doom Island, Daos is alarmed by the events unfolding around him]

Daos: What the...!?

[Amon approaches the Sinistral leader]

Amon: There is a powerful aura over this island. We can neither move nor attack.

Daos [lashes out angrily]: What aggravation! Then it's just a matter of time until they arrive.

Amon [smiles maliciously]: No. They will not be arriving right away.

Daos [calms down a bit]: How so?

Amon: I launched an attack on their ship. This aura prevented me from destroying the ship, but it will fly no more.

Daos [pleased]: You've thought of everything, as usual. But won't they repair their ship right away.

Amon [still smiling]: I've taken care of that as well.


[Back atop Kamirno Island Tower, Clare speaks to the group]

Clare: We've stopped Doom Island, but I don't know how long it will stay put. I vaguely felt that Doom Island had attacked something. It may have been your ship.

Guy [shocked]: What!? Excerion!?

Artea [frowning]: It never occurred to me that they would attack our ship. I wasn't paying attention to the ship.

Guy [annoyed at Artea yet again]: Ok, you weren't paying attention to the ship. Please pay attention now to what we should do!

Maxim: I guess we have to go to Portravia and have Lexis fix the ship.

Clare [urgently]: Please go fast! We have trapped Doom Island at the center of the three towers.

Maxim: Alright. [stern look] But if you feel any danger, any danger at all, please flee, ok!?

Clare [starting to strain]: Th...thank you. Please go now. I will try to control the power as long as my strength lasts. Maxim. Remember, you've been chosen by Dual Blade, the blade that can defeat the Sinistrals.

Maxim: I know. [turns to Selan] Selan, let's go to Portravia!

Selan: Warp!


[The group warped to Portravia and brought the damaged Excerion into the dock of Kirmo's lab. Kirmo and Lexis assess the damage]

Maxim: Lexis, what do you think. Can you repair Excerion?

Lexis [holds his chin thoughtfully]: It's pretty bad, but fortunately the engine was undamaged. Yes, I can repair it right away.

Maxim: Is there anything we can do to help?

Lexis: What you have to do right now is rest. This is my job.

Maxim: I understand. [turns to Selan] Selan, can I see you for a second?

Selan: ......? Alright.

[The two leave the lab and stand on the small bridge over the waterway which led into the dock of Kirmo's lab. Maxim looked out onto the ocean with unreadable eyes]

Selan: What's wrong, Maxim?

Maxim: You should stay here and...

Selan [turns abruptly]: Maxim, just stop right there, or I won't be able to respect you as long as I live!

Maxim [sadly turns]: Selan...

Selan [pained look]: Just don't talk to me like that. It hurts.

Maxim: ......

Selan [embracing Maxim]: Do you think I can let you go without me? No matter what happens to me, I'm going with you.

Maxim [sighs]: Selan...

Selan: Let's go together. And come back together. Let's go back to our son, Jeros, together.

Maxim: Yeah.

[From the entrance to the lab, Guy watches them. Artea soon joins him]

Artea: Listening in is not a good hobby, Guy.

Guy: The next battle is heavy, you know. They have a kid. I was just concerned about them.

Artea: They know very well what they have to do and who they have to protect. They'll be fine.

Guy [turns to Artea]: Hey, you were listening, too.

Artea: Elves have good ears. I didn't overhear... I simply heard.

Guy: Pretty useful ears, huh!

Artea: By the way, Guy. I thought you had someone very dear to you.

Guy [looks away]: Yeah, I do. She's waiting for me back in my hometown.

Artea: You must return unharmed then.

Guy: Yeah... [rueful smile] But even if I didn't make it, she'd chase me as far as purgatory, you know!

Artea [smiles]: She sounds very strong. I'd like to meet her sometime.

Guy: Let's have dinner tomorrow night at my place then. Invite everyone and let's have a party.

Artea: Sounds like a lot of fun. Yes, let's have a party with all our friends.

Guy: Yeah, with everyone...

[Maxim and Selan joins them]

Guy [to Maxim]: Are you through with your talk?

Maxim: Yeah.

Artea: Looks like Excerion is fixed.

Selan: Lexis really is a genius!

Guy: Well, now it's out turn to show our stuff.

Maxim: Yeah, I know. Let's go!


[The group entered the lab to find Lexis and the repaired Excerion]

Lexis: I've repaired Excerion. Well, I guess it's time.

Maxim: Yes.

Lexis: Maxim! You come back, alright?

Maxim: I'll be fine.

[An assistant rushes downstairs]

Assistant #1: Oh, no! The energy holding Doom Island is weakening!

Selan [turns to Maxim]: Maxim!

Maxim [turns to Selan]: Yeah, let's go! We don't have much time!

[A second assistant runs to the basement]

Assistant #2: Monsters are all over the city! And the sea is full of them! We can't move Excerion like this!

Guy [pounds his fist into his palm]: It's the Sinistrals! They're doing this to us!

Maxim: Let's go have a look.


[The group went outside the lab. The waterway leading into the lab basement was blocked with monsters. Even more monsters roamed the streets]

Guy [aggravated]: Rats! So many monsters! Do we have to fight forever or what!?

Artea: There are monsters even in the sea. We can't take off in Excerion like this!

[Lexis runs out to them]

Lexis: Let us take care of these monsters! You go ahead and board Excerion!

Maxim [turns to Lexis]: But...

[A voice calls out from the sea]

Voice: What are you freaking out about!? They're just babies!

Maxim [turns to the water]: What!?

[A spiked-haired man in armor rode atop a blue whale towards the shore. He jumps aground and the monsters surround him. The man shows no fear]

Man: Take my BlastMaster!

[The man, undoubtedly Dekar, clears his personal space of monsters]

Guy [steps forth in shock]: Yo...you!?

Selan [steps forth]: Is this really happening?

Dekar: Hey, long time no see.

Maxim: Dekar! You're alive!

[The group rushes to the Bound Kingdom warrior who they presumed was dead]

Dekar [cocky]: Of course! I'm not only an excellent swordsman, but I'm also great at staying alive, you see.

Guy: Yep. It's Dekar! No doubt about it!

Selan: Yes, that's got to be Dekar!

Dekar [cocks his head to the side]: Who else would I be? Say, there's a dangerous looking island in the sky. Is that their castle?

Maxim: yeah.

Dekar: Then you shouldn't be hangin' around talking, right!> Just go!

Maxim [afraid to lose Dekar again]: Dekar...

Dekar [overconfident as usual]: I'll take care of all the monsters on this side! [Dekar points to Doom Island] Maxim, go up there and get them all!

Maxim: Alright!

[All but Guy return to the lab, who went to Dekar's side]

Guy: You're alive..?

Dekar: Did you really think I'd go that easily?

Guy: Yeah, you're right. I'm probably the only one strong enough to get rid of you, right?

Dekar [smirks]: Uh-huh, Uh-huh! Who do you think you are, eh? But just go and get the Sinistrals, ok? "Talk" later.

Guy: Alright. We will TALK!

[Guy headed for the lab, while Dekar went after the remaining monsters]

Dekar [smiles]: I've forgotten how to miss. I guess I have to take care of the ones who want to go first. [Monsters flee from the warrior]


[Inside the lab, everyone is gathered at the Excerion]

Maxim: Ok, let's go!

[The group boarded the ship and sailed out of the lab. They pass under the bridge where Dekar watches them leave]

Dekar: I'll take care of the monsters on this side! You just go ahead and get up there!


[The Excerion became an airship and flew towards Doom Island. Inside Daos' shrine on the island, The head Sinistral watches them approach]

Daos [very displeased]: It seems they have arrived.

[Amon entered Daos' chamber to confer with him]

Amon: Master Daos. I will drop those annoying creatures like flies.

Daos [intrigued]: Interesting. Show me.

Amon: With pleasure, Master.


[Amon turns to face the oncoming Excerion. The barrier around the island breaks, so Amon is free to use the island's energy to fire upon the group. Several beams miss the ship, but the last one destroys the balloon. Glider wings sprout from the ship and it crashes right inside Daos' shrine on the island. Inside, the group is greeted with total darkness]

Maxim: Is everyone ok?

Guy: Yeah, I'm fine.

Artea: Me, too. I'm alright.

Maxim: Selan...Selan! Say something!

Selan: I'm alright too, Maxim.

Guy: We finally got here, huh!?

Maxim: Is this the Shrine of Daos?

Selan: It's so dark...

Artea: I feel the energy.

Guy: Evil energy. Watch out. It's pretty strong!

Maxim: Selan, use the spell Light.

Selan: Alright.

[The spell is released, and the darkness dissipates. The way through the shrine is made clear]

Maxim: So this is the Shrine of Daos.

Selan [shivers slightly]: It's so cold. It's so cold it chills my heart.

[From far above, Daos spoke to the group]

Daos: You made it to my shrine at last...

Maxim [looks around]: Daos? Daos!? Is it you!? Show yourself!

Daos [beckoning Maxim]: Come! Come before me. I am right above you.


[The group make their way forward. They see the stairs leading to the second floor. But before they could reach them, Gades appeared in front of them]

Gades [less than welcoming]: You finally made it this far...

Maxim: Gades! You can't get away anymore!

Gades: Silence! Advance not a single step more!

[Gades attacked with a vengeance, but the group fought back. The addition of Dual Blade overcame anything Gades threw at them and the titan soon fell in defeat]

Gades: Arrrrrgh! [The vile super being perished]


[The group made their way up to the third floor. They ascended two raised platforms in the middle of the room. Before they could reach the stairs to the fourth floor, Amon materialized in their path]

Amon: So you defeated Gades?

Maxim [points to the Master of Chaos]: You're next, Amon!

Amon [look of death]: You overestimate yourself! Now you shall see my real power, in your face!

[Amon rushes the group unleashed his dark fury upon them. They fight back and eventually bring the fiend down]

Amon [weakly]: Si...Sir Daos! [The breath of life leaves Amon]


[The party proceeded to the fourth floor. They reach the edge of a crystal bridge. On the other side was a portal situated on a small platform. At that moment, Daos spoke once more]

Daos: You may cross.

Selan [turns to Maxim]: Maxim. It could be a trap.

Maxim [turns to Selan]: He said cross. Let's go.

Selan: But...

Maxim: Daos is testing us. He senses our feelings. Don't show any fear!

Guy: You're right. That's what he's doing. [crosses the bridge]

[Artea looks to the heavens and raises a hand upward]

Artea: My power is strong. The hopes of my people energize me. [joins Guy on the other side]

Maxim: Come on, Selan! We're the world's last and only chance!

Selan: I know.

Maxim: There's still hope as long as Dual Blade keeps its light.

Selan [beholding Maxim's sword]: Dual Blade. Its light is beaming even stronger than before.

Maxim: We'll destroy the Sinistrals and restore peace. Promise me you'll go back with me.

Selan: Yes, I promise. I'll go back with you.

[Maxim and Selan joined the others on the small platform. But before they could proceed to the final showdown with Daos, a giant armored woman with icy blue eyes appeared before them. The group instantly knew she was a Sinistral, one they hadn't seen]

Sinistral [cold voice]: Are you the one chosen by the Dual Blade?

Maxim [taken aback by the giantess' sudden appearance]: Wh...who are you!?

Sinistral: I am...

[For a moment, the cold stare left her features and was replaced by a look of uncertainty. (Was she going to say "Iris"?) Her hesitation only enraged Maxim]

Maxim: What is it!? What's your name!?

[The impatient human with the shining sword irritated the giantess. Her icy glare returned]

Sinistral: I'm Erim, Mistress of Death.

Maxim [righteously angry]: You're Erim!? Was it you who revived Gades!?

Erim: Exactly. As long as I live, the four Sinistrals will always revive!

Maxim: So, I have to destroy you to destroy all the Sinistrals, right?

Erim: That is my purpose as well. [points her deadly lance at Maxim] For our enemy is he who possesses Dual Blade!

[The battle against Erim began. She assaulted the group with her dark power, but they resisted her touch of death. In the end, Maxim and the party topple the female Sinistral]

Erim [weakly]: You are str...strong, Maxim. What is it that gives you the strength to battle on?

Maxim [gestures to Selan]: I have someone to protect...

Erim [slightly surprised]: The woman beside you? You would risk your own life for one woman?

Maxim: To me, she means more than life itself.

Selan [moved]: Maxim...

Erim: Is this human emotion? [sneers] Ha! Ridiculous! Even such power must fail before Daos!

[Erim is taken by that she thought she'd mastered - death]


[The group stepped on the portal and were warped into Daos' inner sanctum. They find him at the top of the stairs, imperious as usual]

Maxim: We've got you now, Daos!

Daos: Why do you try to stop me? Many people worship superior beings such as I.

Maxim: So you say! No one would worship such evil Sinistrals!

Daos [sniffs disdainfully]: How simple minded! Listen to me. There are two ways of looking at all things. Some believe in love and happiness, others in destruction and chaos. They cannot stand apart!

Maxim: Then why has only evil appeared? Where are those others who believe in good!?

Daos: It is so ordained by Arek the Absolute.

Maxim: Arek the Absolute...?

Daos: He is the One who stands above all others like me.

Maxim [flabbergasted]: I had no idea...

Daos: We've chatted long enough. It's time to settle this, time to meet your doom!

Maxim [points his sword at his enemy]: With this Dual Blade, I will put an end to your evil ways!

Daos: Excellent! I can sense your power is superhuman. It's no surprise that you can use Dual Blade. [starts bellowing in anger] With my power, that sword should me mine! Why did you choose him, Dual Blade!? I will have my revenge on you and Dual Blade! I am Master of Terror! No one can challenge me!


[The final battle with Daos began. He unleashes his near incomprehensible evil power upon Maxim and the others. The party fought back hard. After a very long fight, the Master of Terror fell to his knees in defeat]


Maxim: This is the end, Daos!

[Mortally wounded, yet refusing to die, Daos turned and stepped a pace from them. He then turned back to them, filled with a rage he couldn't contain]

Daos: Never! The Sinistrals are absolute Masters of Destruction!! Gades! Amon! Erim! Gather before me! Let your power resonate with mine!

[The spirits of the other Sinistrals appeared and surrounded the group. The four Sinistrals gathered all their energy into one enormous wave with the group trapped in the middle]

Daos [supremely insane]: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Guy [shocked]: Those Sinistrals still haven't bit the dust!?

Artea: Not exactly. Those are the last of their energy waves. They're resonating with Daos' energy!

Guy: His last ditch effort!

Artea: It's not that simple! Those energy waves could still rupture and take the world with it!

Guy [shocked beyond measure]: What!? They're willing to destroy themselves and the world to take us down!?

Maxim: I won't let it happen! [Maxim rushes Daos, but is knocked back by the wave] Selan! Guy! Artea! Lend me your power! This is going to take all of us!

[The group formed a circle and created their own energy wave. They released it, but it merely bounced off the Sinistrals' dark wave]

Daos [taunting them]: Ha, ha, ha, ha! Your energy waves are too puny and pathetic to break this last barrier!

Maxim: We've got to give it everything we've got!

Artea: Maxim, Selan can't take much more of this!

Selan [straining to hold the wave]: Don't worry about me, Maxim! I can do it!

Maxim: Alright.

[The group puts all their energy into the wave. The two conflicting waves makes the room shake. Daos also shook as the group unknowingly gave him a taste of his own medicine - terror]

Daos [wide-eyed in fright]: You little hoochees!

[The Sinistral wave starts to become unstable]

Maxim: Now! Do it now!

[The group releases their wave. All but Maxim go flying, and the Sinistrals are finally vanquished]

Maxim: It's over...

[Maxim heads over to the fallen Guy]

Maxim: You ok, Guy?

Guy [getting to his feet]: You can't get rid of me that easily!

[The two head for the fallen Artea. Guy stops by the bridge]

Maxim: Artea?

Artea [getting up]: I'm doing fine.

[Maxim finds a woozy Selan on the other side of the bridge. Guy and Artea wait on the bridge]

Maxim: Selan?

Selan [speaks with glazed eyes]: We've finally done it, Maxim...

Maxim [concerned at Selan's condition]: Are you alright, Selan?

Selan [still dazed]: Now... the world will be at peace once more.

Maxim: That's right, I know. We can go home now.

Selan: I'm sorry. I'm afraid I can't go with you...

Maxim: Selan? What are you saying?

Selan: I was hit when the Sinistrals ruptured... I can barely speak... [Selan collapses]

Maxim [aghast]: Selan... Talk to me, Selan!!

Selan [weak voice]: I really want... I wish I could go with you...and hold our son once again... 

[Selan left the mortal plane, but before Maxim could grieve for her, the shrine began to shake. The bridge collapsed, separated Maxim from Artea and Guy]

Guy: The shrine is collapsing! Artea, get us out of here!

Artea: Selan and Maxim are too far away! If we warp now, we'll leave them behind!

Guy: Blast it. Can't we do anything?

Maxim: Guy! Artea! Save yourselves! Go!

Artea: Maxim!?

Maxim: We've defeated the Sinistrals! The people need to know. You must be the messengers!

Artea: But...

Maxim: I can't leave Selan. Please understand.

Artea: ...

Guy [turns to Artea]: Let's go, Artea!

Artea [turns to Guy in horror]: Guy, what are you...!?

Guy: Maxim wants us to go! If we can't all go together, that leaves us only one choice!

Artea [mortified]: ...

Guy getting impatient]: Artea, come on!!

Artea [turns to Maxim, tears in his eyes]: Maxim... I promise to tell the world about this victory. Please! You must try... Warp!!

[Artea and Guy escape the collapsing shrine]

Maxim: Selan... There will be a new era of peace. I wish we could have seen it. Selan, I love you. I always have and I always will.

[The shaking becomes more violent. Maxim holds Selan tightly, bracing for impact. Strangely, impact doesn't come. Instead, the shrine ceases collapsing and holds firm]

Maxim [confused]: What the... The shaking has stopped?

[Daos' vengeance-crazed spirit appeared before Maxim]

Maxim: Daos!!

Daos: You think you've won!? I may not be able to destroy the world, but I still have this island!

Maxim: What!?

Daos: I'll drop this island onto Parcelyte! It will be my final act of terror! Ha, ha, ha, ha! 

[Daos vanishes, leaving Maxim to ponder the horrible fate awaiting everyone in his hometown - most of all, baby Jeros]

Maxim: Drop Doom Island onto Parcelyte!? What am I going to do!?

[At that moment, the spirit of Iris appeared nearby. Maxim notices her and goes towards her]

Maxim: Iris? [looks beyond the surface] No, you're not Iris.

Iris: ...

Maxim: I feel your aura...the same aura as Erim! Why? You are the enemy, and yet you have helped me time and again?

Iris: This was a battle of judgment for us.

Maxim: A battle of judgment?

Iris: That you exist, and resonate with Dual Blade, means people act apart from the Sinistrals.

Maxim: Apart from the Sinistrals?

Iris [nodding]: The purpose of Dual Blade is to defeat the Sinistrals. Defeat them, and you need them not.

Maxim: Are you saying we do not need any help from super beings anymore?

Iris: No. Humans still need faith. Arek thought Dual Blade wouldn't ring for at least 1000 years. But Dual Blade began to ring and, thus, I came to you, to see everything, the end.

Maxim: ......

[Iris folds her arms and bows her head]

Iris: But I helped you more than I should have... I don't know myself why I did so...

Maxim [urgently]: Iris, this island is falling towards Parcelyte. You must know a way to stop it.

Iris [head still bowed]: Yes...but I can't tell you.

Maxim [appalled]: But why not!?

Iris: I am Mistress of Death. It would be against my nature to save the lives of many.

Maxim: But you have appeared now, in the form of Iris!?

Iris [head comes up sharply]: ___!

Maxim: The Iris I knew helped me, and would wish well for those who perished.

Iris [torn between her two selves]: ............

Maxim: It was because of you that I journeyed, because of you that I met so many people.

[A pained look crosses Iris' face]

Iris: My time is...running out. My...energy is...fading.

Maxim [pleading with her]: Tell me please, Iris!

Iris [nods]: At the foot of this island are three Mystic Stones that control it. Destroy them to alter its course. Only a powerful aura can destroy the Mystic Stones. To destroy them could mean your life...

Maxim: I understand.

Iris: With my final breath, I shall open the door leading below. There is little time left before...

[Iris used her remaining energy to open a portal over the gap where the bridge once stood]

Iris: I can no longer help you. Everything is up to you now. I will be watching from afar to see whether or not people have the power to build their own future. [With those words, the woman Maxim knew best as Iris entered eternity]


[Maxim entered the portal and found himself on a set of narrow, twisting passageways underneath Doom Island. They made his way across them and found an enormous floating crystal emanating with power]

Maxim: This must be the Mystic Stone. Alright, here goes!

[Maxim gathered his energy into one wave and released it onto the stone. It shattered before his very eyes. A door opened behind the stone]

Maxim: Two more to go...

[Maxim went through the door to reach another set of narrow passageways. He quickly went over them to find a second Mystic Stone]

Maxim: The second one...

[Maxim unleashed his energy wave on the second stone and destroyed it]

Maxim: Alright. One more.

[Maxim followed the opened path and proceeded across the narrow walkways to the final stone]

Maxim: This is it. This is the last one!

[Maxim gathered his energy and assaulted the stone, but it held firm]

Maxim [slumping slightly]: Darn it! I'm not strong enough to stop this!

[The Dual Blade appeared before Maxim]

Maxim [greatly exerted]: Du...Dual Blade... Alright. I'll use all the power and strength I've got left with you!

[The Dual Blade floated to the stone]

Maxim: Lend your power with mine, in this, my final last of strength, Dual Blade!!

[Maxim used his remaining energy and unleashed his wave. The Dual Blade amplified the wave and it shattered the Mystic Stone. The island shook and changed course. The Dual Blade vanished]

Maxim [Selan, I changed the course. Parcelyte..., our Jeros will be ok now. [Maxim fell from overexertion] I'm tired. I'm so tired, Selan. Let me sleep for a while next to you.

[A small ball of light floated before Maxim. It changed and became the spirit of the recently deceased Selan]

Selan: Maxim...

[Maxim lifted his head to look at her. He almost didn't recognize her voice, for it was very soft and ethereal. For a brief moment, Maxim wondered if he was hallucinating]

Maxim: Selan? Is that you...?

Selan: You did it, Maxim.

Maxim [concludes he's not seeing things]: Yeah, I did, didn't I, Selan?

Selan: Let's go, Maxim... Let's go to our son...and...

Maxim [smiles very weakly]: Yes, let's do that.

[Maxim left his dying body behind and joined Selan in the air]

[The spirits of Maxim and Selan became balls of energy that left the ruined shrine of Daos. Doom Island neared Parcelyte, but then it veered southwest. The balls of light left the island and traveled serenely across the land. They fly above the village of Eseritko, where a wounded Artea returned to a waiting Milka]

Milka: Artea!

Artea: Milka... I'm home.

Milka [noticing his injury]: Artea! Your eye. You hurt your eye! I must treat it right away!

Artea [dismissing it]: I'm alright. This won't kill me.

Milka: Artea...

Artea: Now, Milka. Do you feel like going to a city called Tanbel?

Milka: Tanbel?

Artea: That's where Guy lives. I promised I'd come to his party after this battle.

Milka: It's ok if I go with you?

Artea: Of course. The time's come for everyone to enjoy this peace - together.

[The energies of Maxim and Selan fly from Eseritko and travel to the far off city of Tanbel, where Guy had just arrived to meet Hilda and Jessy]

Guy: Hey, Hilda, Jessy? I'm home!

Jessy [furiously goes to Guy]: I'm home!? When that island started to fall, can you imagine how I worried? Can you!?

Guy: I'm so sorry, Jessy.

Jessy [turns aside in suspicion]: What's going on? It's not like you to be so humble like that.

Hilda [to Guy]: What happened to Maxim and Selan, brother?

Guy [turned to Hilda]: Oh, that's right! We were suppose to celebrate after the battle!

Jessy: So everyone's coming?

Guy: Yeah. Maxim, Selan, Artea, Dekar, and that old man, Lexis, will probably come too. And...

Jessy: Wow! Sounds like a big party. I wonder if we have enough rooms in the inn?

Guy: Well, if not, bring them to other people's houses. You can use anyone's house for this!

[The two balls of light continued their voyage over Bound Kingdom, where Dekar stands outside the throne room of the castle. A soldier stands by his side]

Dekar: I don't feel the evil energy in that island anymore. I guess you did it, Maxim.

Soldier [turns to Dekar]: Maxim defeated Daos! He is great! Indeed, truly different from all other warriors!

Dekar [turns to the soldier]: Of course! He's the second strongest man in the world, you see!

Soldier: Second? Who's first?

Dekar [slightly insulted smile]: Who do you think!? Me, of course.

Soldier: Ha, ha... Yeah...that's right... So, do you think Maxim will come to this castle?

Dekar [looks to the horizon]: Of course he will! He has to! We haven't had our match yet!

Soldier: That's great! I can't wait to see him!

[While Maxim and Selan continued their voyage in the sky, Doom Island continued southwest past Gordovan West Tower and kept going. In Kirmo's lab in Portravia, an assistant rushes downstairs to Lexis]

Assistant: Doom Island has changed course! It's not going to fall on Parcelyte!

Lexis [looks to the waters]: I see.

Assistant: I calculated the falling point on the new course. It's heading beyond the strait to West Land.

Lexis [surprised look]: To West Land? That far?

Assistant: Yes.

Lexis: Whereabouts in West Land?

Assistant: It should fall in the sea northwest of a village called Alse.

Lexis: I see... I guess I must go... to West Land.

Kirmo: But first you should go for a big party in Tanbel, am I right?

Lexis [turns to Kirmo]: How did you know about that?

Kirmo: I know everything.

Assistant [to Lexis]: The ship is all set to leave.

Lexis: I wish you folks were this enthusiastic all the time.

[The two balls of energy travel north across the sea and fly over Maxim's old hometown - Elcid. In Elcid, Tia stands outside her shop. Perhaps subconsciously, she felt Maxim pass over. Tears, held back for countless years, began to roll down her cheek, as she unknowingly mourned the death of her love]

Tia: ......

[Tia's helper comes out to the shop and sees Tia crying]

Helper: What's wrong, Tia?

Tia [startled]: Wh...what? No...no, nothing... Nothing, really.

Helper: Are you crying, Tia?

Tia: Eh? Yes...I guess I am... [puts her hand to her tear-streaked cheek] It's...strange... I haven't cried in so long?

Helper: Are you sad about something? You look like something awful has happened.

Tia [anguished]: I...I don't know. It's funny because I don't know. But my tears won't stop... [buries her crying face in her slender hands]

Helper [comforting Tia]: Cry when you want to. Don't worry about it. Just cry.

[Tia looked to the sky]

Helper: When you're feeling sad or in pain, just cry out everything. The next day will be better.

Tia: Yeah.., thanks.

[The two balls of light make their way northeast to their final stop, Parcelyte. In their home, Jeros is awakened by his mother's presence. His aunt holds him lovingly]

Jeros: Mmm...ma, mama...mamaaa...

Auntie [noticing Jeros has awakened]: Oh, yes, yes, Jeros. What is it?

Jeros: Ma...mama...ma, ma...mama...

Auntie: Were you having a dream about your mother? Don't worry, she'll be back soon. Your mother and father saved this world.

Jeros [excited]: Ma...mama!

Auntie [astonished]: Are you smiling? [rocks him gently] Soon, they'll be back soon, Jeros.


[Maxim and Selan hover for a moment above Parcelyte. Then, they rise up and make their way into heaven, leaving behind the world they fought and died to save, a world yet unaware of their passing]

Rob: What's your name?

Girl: Lufia... my name's Lufia.

Rob: That's a nice name. Hey, Lufia! Where are your parents?

Lufia: ......

Rob: Where do you live?

Lufia: Let's play.

Rob: Huh?

Lufia: Let's go outside and play!

Rob: Ok. What shall we play?

Lufia: Tag! I'll run and you come after me.

Rob: Ok. I'll count to three. Ready? One, two...

Lufia: Whee! Ha, ha, ha!
