~Part IV: Love My Sword~

[Some time after Gades' death, everyone is gathered outside the shrine in Parcelyte for the marriage of Maxim and Selan. The two exit the shrine and kiss]

Woman #1: Congratulations, Selan! You look so beautiful!

Man #1: Madam, Selan. You are, you are really getting married! [gets misty-eyed]

Man #2: Hey, stop crying! This is the happiest day in her life!

Guy [to Dekar]: It's been only a month since Maxim returned. They rushed into the marriage, alright.

Dekar: Hey, Guy! What about your girlfriend? Isn't she asking you to get married, too?

[Jessy arrives behind Guy's back]

Guy [cocky as usual]: Yeah, but women don't understand the adventurous male spirit. Warriors don't need women!

[Jessy gets right in Guy's face]

Jessy: So, is that how you really feel about us, Guy?

Guy [shocked]: Wh...whoa! Jessy! What are you doing here?

Jessy: I'm here for the wedding. If you really feel that way, I can leave you anytime. [Jessy turns away]

Guy: Hey, now. I was just joking, Jessy. I need you, you know that.

Jessy [unimpressed]: Uh-huh. Sure, Guy. [Jessy runs off]

Guy: Come on, Jessy! I mean it! I was just joking. Hey! Wait up! [Guy runs after her]

Dekar: So that's a true warrior, huh!?

[Maxim and Selan come up to watch]

Selan: I guess that's the way they show each other affection.

Dekar [turning to Selan]: Hey, Selan! You look really cool in that wedding dress.

Selan: Thanks.

[A soldier runs to the newlyweds]

Soldier: Commander Selan! Monsters are in the southern part of the castle! We need your help!

[Everyone turns to give the soldier a unified dirty look]

Selan [crinkles her nose]: You guys, it's our wedding day! Can't you be a little more sensitive?

Maxim [turns to Selan]: But Selan, aren't you hiding a sword under your dress?

Selan [turns to Maxim]: You know about that, huh? I feel like something's missing without it. But you, too, Maxim. You have your sword, right?

Maxim: Well, this is like a part of me...

Selan [urgently]: Please, Commander!

Selan: I guess I have to... [turns to Maxim] What do you think, Maxim?

Maxim: The wedding needs some kind of attraction, don't you think?

Selan: Yeah, I guess so.

[The dress and the tuxedo fly off to reveal their more familiar battle attire. A running Guy sees them and stops his dash]

Guy: Oh, Maxim! I heard you're off to the battle. I'll join you!

Jessy [catching up to Guy]: Guy! Whatever happened to the talk about our wedding!?

Guy [panicking]: Maxim, Selan. I'll go ahead and meet you guys later, ok!? [runs out of sight]

Jessy: Hey wait, Guy! [starts pursuing Guy again]

Maxim: Shall we, Selan!?

Selan: Yes, sir! [The couple heads for the castle]

Dekar: I thought the idea was to put the knife into the wedding cake and not into monsters! Well, I guess it's their style. I'd better go ahead and give them a hand. [runs to the castle]

Cleric: It's their wedding day...

King: It's alright. They can deal with ordinary monsters easily. As long as villains like Gades stay away, this world will remain at peace.

Cleric: Yeah. Thanks to Maxim's risking his life to defeat Gades, we now have this precious peace.

King: Indeed. Maxim's really some guy!

Cleric: That's for sure.

[Soon spring rolls around, and Maxim arrives at his and Selan's house]

Maxim: Hello, I'm home.

Selan [going to Maxim]: Hi!

Maxim: hmm. Something smells good!

Selan: Doesn't it! I tried something different today.

Maxim: Really!? What is it?

Selan: I deep fried jelly in olive oil.

Maxim [unsure]: Heh...? Is it...um...you know...edible?

Selan [ticked off]: Didn't I just say I tried something different?!

Maxim: Did it work?

Selan [sarcastic]: Ha, ha...ha.

[Spring passes and summer arrives. Maxim and Selan are walking down the main street of Parcelyte]

Selan: It's really hot,,,

Maxim: Yep, it's summer alright.

[Lemmy rushes up to Selan]

Lemmy: Selan, aren't you going to the sea this year?

Selan [to Maxim]: Let's see... Maxim, are we going to the sea?

Maxim: The sea, huh!? That sounds good.

Lemmy [to Maxim]: Selan's swimsuit has two parts, top and bottom. And so tiny, too.

Maxim: Two pieces, huh? Tiny, huh? Hmm...

[Maxim contemplates Selan in such attire, and his spouse becomes quite annoyed]

Selan: That was last year. You wear something like that when you're young. I'll wear the one piece.

Maxim [liking that as well]: ...Hmm!!

[Summer soon gives way to fall. Selan trains with a knight who gets quickly beaten]

Knight: I...I give up!

Selan [disappointed]: What!? That's all? It's the perfect season for training. Can't you keep it up a little longer?

Knight: Ye...yes, sir! I see you're still as strong as ever, Commander.

Selan [surprised to hear that]: You think so? But I haven't been practicing much since I got married. [turns to Maxim who's standing nearby] Right, Maxim?

Maxim [going to Selan]: No, but you wave your sword a lot when we fight. That's scarier than a real battle.

Knight: So that's her secret. You're probably the only one strong enough to be her husband, Sir Maxim!

Maxim [to the knight]: It certainly isn't an easy job! I get more nervous fighting Selan than monsters, you know.

Selan [giving Maxim a dark look]: You're not implying I'm worse than a monster, I hope!

Maxim: Well, sometimes...

Selan [blows her stack]: Maxim!

[Pushes Maxim back with a series of sword strokes while he desperately parries her sudden assault]

Knight: Whew, incredible swordsmanship! Really, they are quite a pair!

[The cold winter soon rolls in. Maxim and Selan are outside the shrine]

Selan: it's almost been a year since we were married...

Maxim [joining her]: It's gone by so fast.

Selan: I know.

Maxim [turning to Selan]: Are you...happy, Selan?

Selan [turning to Maxim]: Can't you tell?

Maxim [turns away]: I think I know.

Selan: Hey... Do you love me?

Maxim [turns back]: Do I have to tell you?

Selan [turns away]: Yes.

Maxim: So you're going to make me say it.

Selan: I need to hear it sometimes...

Maxim: Selan... I... [the couple embraces in the cold winter air]

[Many months later, Selan is in bed while her aunt holds a baby - Selan's baby]

Aunt: It's a boy, Selan!

Selan: My...my baby...

[Maxim rushes up from downstairs]

Maxim: Selan!

Selan: Look, Maxim! It's a boy. He looks just like you...

Maxim: Good job, Selan. A really good job.

Selan: Yeah.

Maxim: We have to name him.

Selan: I've been thinking about that. How about Jeros?

Maxim: Jeros... Yeah, it's a good name. Yes, he is out Jeros.

Selan: I was hoping you'd like it.

Maxim: A name you chose? Of course I would.

Selan: Thanks.

[Some time later, Maxim returns home to his lovely wife and mother of their child]

Selan: Hi, my love!

Maxim: How's Jeros doing?

Selan: He's sleeping.

Maxim: I thought so. I couldn't hear his voice from outside.

Selan [furrows her brow]: That sounds like I'm always making him cry or something.

Maxim: Well...you're not very good at getting him to go to sleep, are you?

Selan: Neither are you!

[Before the real fireworks begin, they hear a strange yet familiar sound from upstairs]

Maxim: What's that sound?

Selan: It came from the bedroom. Let me check!

[Selan hurries upstairs, and Maxim joins her. They find Jeros in the clutches of a fiend they'd last seen at the North Labyrinth two years previously - Idura]

Maxim: You...you...! You're Idura!

Idura [smirking as usual]: I've got your little baby.

Maxim [outraged]: What do you think you're doing!?

Idura: Orders from one up high.

Maxim [even more outraged]: Who!? If it's Gades, he's history!

Idura: No, no. Not Gades. Too bad you don't know yet.

Maxim: What are you talking about?

Idura: Come to the North Lighthouse to find out. [Warps out with Jeros]

Selan [almost panicking]: Maxim...Jeros! Our baby!

Maxim: I know. We've got to go to the North Lighthouse.

[The couple rushes from their house much to the shock of their neighbors in Parcelyte. They leave town and proceed north to the lighthouse. They eventually make their way to the top floor where they a find a baby lying on the floor]

Selan: Jeros!

[As she approaches her infant son, Idura appears before her to block her path]

Idura: You're here...

Selan [desperate for Jeros' well-being]: Jeros's okay, isn't he?

Idura: Don't worry. He's just fine...for now.

Selan [outraged at the abductor of her child]: What did my son ever do to you!?

Idura: I am under orders from a certain someone to ensure your bloodline ends, Maxim.

Maxim: My...bloodline.

Idura: We do not really need to talk, now do we?

[Selan approaches the madman]

Idura: Don't you move!

[Idura back up to cover Jeros]

Idura: One step more and you'll never see daylight again! Oh, I forgot. His fate will be grim, no matter what you try to do. Ha, ha, ha!

[At that moment, Iris appears near the gloating Idura, neatly scoops up Jeros and vanishes. She then reappears behind Maxim with Jeros in her arms]

Idura [not smirking anymore]: Wh...what!?

Iris: Maxim, NOW!

[Maxim and Selan move in to battle Idura. They withstand the sorcerer's spells and soon bring him down]

Idura: Aggrrrrh! [Idura warps from the lighthouse]

[Selan rushes back to Jeros. Iris returns him to his mother, who holds him tightly. Maxim goes to face Iris]

Selan [soothing Jeros]: Oh, my baby Jeros. It's ok now.

Maxim: Iris...

Iris: Good to see you again, Maxim.

Maxim: I began my journey as you told me. I've met many people in many places, and I've met Selan.

Iris: ......

Maxim: I defeated Gades and brought peace to the world. You did mean that I was to fight Gades?

Iris: Exactly. But...your fate has changed.

Maxim: What do you mean?

Iris: If you had died when you defeated Gades, peace would have returned to the world. But you married Selan and left a descendant. You were supposed to die in that tower. But I...

[A distraught Iris doesn't finish. Maxim can't understand why she's so stressed out]

Maxim: ......?

Iris [regaining her composure]: The flow of time is changing. Even I cannot see the future any more. I can tell you it's time for you to go. To protect your loved ones, you must fight again.

Maxim: Are you saying there is an enemy stronger than Gades?

Iris: If in fact you have the power to change fate, you will one day know the truth. [Iris walks a few paces from Maxim, turns to face him and then teleports from the lighthouse]

Selan: Maxim...

Maxim: Selan...is Jeros alright?

Selan: Yes.

Maxim: ......

Selan: You're going, aren't you, Maxim?

Maxim: I must go to protect you and Jeros.

Selan: I'm going with you.

Maxim: No, you can't. You must stay with our son.

Selan: If I were an ordinary mother, I could wait with Jeros for you to come back. But I know different. I know how to fight! I want to fight to protect Jeros!

Maxim: You may not be able to see him again once you go on.

Selan: If we can't defeat the enemy, this world will end sooner or later anyway. But...

Maxim: But what?

Selan: I will come back to Jeros and lead a quiet life, with you and Jeros, in a world at peace.

Maxim: I knew I couldn't stop you. Ok. The first thing we should do is track down Idura.

Selan: Before that, let's go back to Parcelyte. We can't take Jeros with us.

Maxim: Alright.

[The couple returned to their home in Parcelyte. They leave Jeros with Selan's aunt]

Selan: Auntie, please look after my Jeros for me.

Auntie: Don't worry about Jeros. But, Selan...why you? Why do you have to fight? My only hope was for you to have the ordinary happiness of a mother, you know.

Selan: Auntie, I AM happy. I fight for the people I truly love. What mother can do this?

Auntie: I guess that's another way to look at it. In any case, I'll take care of Jeros just fine.

Selan: Thank you. I'm counting on you.

Auntie: Selan... You have to come back. Jeros needs you.

Selan: I know, I know, aunty.

[The couple leaves their home. They talk to the townsfolk and learn Idura headed north towards the port town of Aleyn, which was east of Bound Kingdom. They warped back to Bound Kingdom, then proceeded east past the Ancient Tower to the small shrine that led to Aleyn. The soldiers stepped aside for them, and they went through the door. As they warped across the river, they encountered Guy and Dekar]

Guy: Hey, Maxim!

Dekar [to the couple]: Where are you two going?

Maxim: Guy! Dekar!

Guy: Were you just going to go off without saying anything to us? I thought we were a team!

Dekar: Did you really think we wouldn't notice an enemy bigger than Gades making a move!?

Maxim: ......

Guy: Let me tell you. I'm not going for you. I'm going because there's someone I have to protect, too.

Dekar [to Guy]: I heard you still hadn't married that someone you must protect. Talk about slow!

Guy: Ha! What do you know about love anyway? You don't even HAVE a girlfriend!

Dekar [proudly]: My love is my sword!

Guy [raised eyebrow]: If you ask me, you should stay away from thoughts like that.

Dekar [to Maxim]: Anyhow, I'm going no matter what you say, Maxim.

Maxim: I know. You two will do what you have to do no matter what I say.

Guy: That's right. Well, shall we then?

[Guy and Dekar rejoin the party, which continues east to Aleyn. According to the citizens, Idura had destroyed all the ships and headed east to the Ustark Continent. Jyad, a master shipbuilder, could remedy the situation. However, he was on the North Mountain. The group headed for the mountain and fought their way through treacherous caverns. Along the way, they meet a man]

Maxim: Are you Jyad, by any chance?

Man: That's me. Who are you folks?

Maxim: I'm Maxim. I'm after someone on the East Continent, but the ships in Aleyn were destroyed.

Jyad [shocked]: What!? All the ships destroyed? What about my Margos?

Maxim: I didn't see any ships at all in port, so probably...

Jyad [ticked off] Darn it! What's goin' on? [shakes his head and tries to look on the bright side] Well, that makes my coming here worthwhile, huh!

Maxim: What are you saying?

Jyad: There's a tree called the phantom tree in this mountain. It's light, strong, ideal for ships. I'm a darn good shipmaker, you see. As soon as I can get the tree, I can make the best. But the monster ahead is too tough, so I'm stuck sitting here doing nothing.

Dekar: That's easy, then. Let us take care of the monster.

Jyad: Are you sure?

Dekar: Trust me! But in return, please take us to the East Continent when you finish the ship.

Jyad: Sure. No problem.

Dekar: We've got a deal!

[Jyad follows the group onward when a large monster appeared before them]

Maxim: This might be the one.

[The group fights the two lions and quickly dispatch of them. They proceed to a small ledge and find a large tree]

Jyad [in awe]: Th...this is it... [goes to the tree]

Guy [also in awe]: This tree is huge! Is this it?

Jyad: Yeah! I'm sure of it!

Maxim: Do you think you can a ship out of this?

Jyad: Sure - the best! Right! I'll go back to the city and organize some help. [goes to leave]

Maxim [remembering something]: Oh, wait!

Jyad [turns anxiously]: What is it? I have to go back right away and...

Maxim: You can go back to the city in a flash.

Jyad: What?

Maxim: Would you come over here and stay close to us?

[Jyad reluctantly comes near to the group]

Maxim: Selan, we're ready.

Selan: Alright. Warp!

[In an instant, everyone materializes at the edge of Aleyn]

Jyad [looking around]: So that's what a "Warp" is.

Selan: Was that your first time?

Jyad [turns to Selan]: Yeah. I don't meet many people who can use spells. My stomach feels kind of weird.

Selan: You're just spell sick. It happens to some people when they get hit with one.

Jyad [incredulous]: Me? Sick? You're kidding! [Jyad gets slightly self-important] I've never been sick! Even riding out a storm.

Selan: Ships and spells are different. You'll get used to it.

Jyad [declining]: No thanks. I prefer ships. Oh, that's right. I've got a ship to make. I'm off to fetch the wood. The ship will be done in a couple of days. I'll show you my best work. Come back then, ok!?

[Jyad goes off to start work]

Selan [to Maxim]: I guess sailors like cruising better than warping.

Dekar: I'm so used to warping that I can't travel around slowly in ships.

Maxim [to Dekar]: But you can't get to places you've never been by Warp. That means we must travel by ship.

Dekar: Hmm...that's true.

Selan: By the way, Maxim. What are we going to do until the ship is done?

Maxim: Jyad said a couple of days, so we have to stay in the city until then.

Guy: Maxim. I just remembered something I have to do.

Dekar: Me, too.

Guy [to Dekar]: You're not thinking of going out on the town, are you?

Dekar [to Guy]: Not to show off or anything, but, besides being great and all, I'm also good at making friends!

Guy: No woman in her right mind would befriend you.

Dekar: Save it until you see what I can do, alright? [heads to town]

Guy [calling out to Dekar]: Where is this confidence coming from!? You've got nothing special to be proud of! [to Maxim] You heard us. We'll be chillin' around this city for a couple of days. [heads into town]

Selan [crinkling her nose]: Typical males!

Maxim: ......

[Two days pass, and Maxim and Selan find Jyad at the dock with a newly finished ship]

Jyad: Look at this beauty! I did it! It's done. This is the newly born Margos!

Maxim: Incredible! It's amazing how fast you can work!

Jyad [tries to be humble]: It's nothing, really. A piece of cake. Do it all the time... Ha, ha, ha!

[Guy comes to the dock]

Guy: Oh, it's ready, huh? What good timing! I needed a break from the party.

[Dekar soon catches up to Guy]

Dekar: Yeah, you just don't know how to handle the wild side like I do, huh!?

Guy: Look who's talking! Who was it that got smacked up side the head by a "new friend"?

Dekar [stammers a bit]: You don't know how strong she was. She's probably stronger than Gades!

Guy [not buying it]: Uh-huh. Sure.

Selan [to Dekar]: It's not strength! She just knows how to handle brutes like you.

Maxim: In any case, Jyad, would you take us to the Ustark Continent?

Jyad: Why not! And where exactly did you want to go? You can go to either Narcysus port on Ustark or Gruberik port where the Ancient Cave is.

[Answer "Narcysus"]

Jyad: Alright. Let's go to Narcysus!

[The Margos takes everyone east across the sea to Narcysus. The first person they meet tells them a weird man appeared a couple of days ago and destroyed all the ships. Another said the same man went to the North Tower. As they head up the stairs from the dock, they hear a strange flute sound from somewhere]

Dekar: Huh? What's this flute sound?

[A young woman comes their way, her eyes glazed]

Woman #1: I...I must go...

Guy: Wh...what the...?

[The woman leaves town, followed by another woman and a little girl, all in the same condition. A third woman comes their way. Dekar stops her]

Dekar: Hey! What's going on? Where are you going?

Woman #3 [not acknowledging Dekar]: North...the North Tower. I must go to the North Tower.

[The woman walks out of town like the others, and the strange song ends]

Guy: The flute has stopped.

[A voice calls from behind]

Voice: Marsa!

[A sailor hurries up the stairs]

Dekar: Hey, what's happening around here?

Sailor: I don't know. It's just that all the young women have left the city. Anyway, I'll try to go after Marsa! [the sailor runs out of town]

Guy: Only the young women have gone. That flute sound stinks.

Dekar: Yeah, very fishy!

Selan: But nothing happened to me.

Guy [shrugs]: I guess it's because you're married.

Dekar: Only the young single women, huh. They must want to use their life force for something.

Guy [very shocked]: Life force! Then they're in great danger, for sure!

Dekar: We've got to do something to save them! I'm off! [starts to leave gallantly]

Guy: Wait a minute, Dekar! I'll go with you.

Dekar: No, that won't be necessary.

Guy: It doesn't matter. I'm going. I can't let you be the hero and not me.

Dekar: You already have a girlfriend in Tanbel, don't you!?

Guy [too proudly]: A man in battle needs a little romance.

Dekar: Oh, come on! Why don't you go ahead and marry her, huh!?

[Selan's had enough of their bickering]

Selan: I can't take this nonsense. Leave them alone and let's just go ourselves, Maxim!

Maxim: Yeah! [starts to leave]

Guy: Wait up, Maxim. Alright. Let's all go together.

Dekar: I won't be defeated, you know!

[The recently reconciled group headed northeast to the Tower of Sacrifice. They soon reach the top floor to find three women and a little girl in the center of the room]

Guy: Maxim, look! The girls from the city!

[Guy rushes to the girls]

Narcysus Woman #3: Did you come here to save us!?

Guy [not humble as usual]: Yeah. As long as I'm here, you have nothing to worry about.

[Maxim and Selan join Guy and the girls]

Narcysus Woman #1: We will be ok now, won't we?

Narcysus Woman #2: I thought we'd never get out of here.

[Steel barriers rise from the floor and trap everyone in the center of the room]

Guy: Darn it! It's a trap!

[Outside the cage, the nefarious Idura appears]

Idura: It's you folks. I knew you'd come.

Maxim [dark look at Idura]: Idura...

Idura [points to the Narcysus women]: Those girls will be used to resurrect Sir Gades. I'll let no one stop me!

Maxim [shocked at the revelation]: To revive Gades!? Do you have enough power to revive Gades?

Idura [shakes his head]: I don't have the power to revive Sir Gades.

Maxim: Who then?

Idura [ecstatic]: Soon, all will know of the four Sinistrals, for they have begun to make their move!

[A voice speaks from behind Idura]

Voice [cocky]: Are you still speaking as if you don't know what you're talking about? I just hate that!

[Idura turns around to see Dekar behind him]

Idura: Y...you! How did you get here!?

[Dekar doesn't answer, but runs to the cage instead]

Dekar: You ladies can relax now. Dekar has come to the rescue.

[Narcysus Woman #3 runs to the bars]

Narcysus Woman #3: Are you going to save us?

Dekar: As long as you believe in me, no enemy can beat me.

Narcysus Woman #3 [overjoyed]: Oh, yes! I believe in you.

[Guy runs behind the woman]

Guy: Beware of this sweet talker. His skill is sure, but a thinker he's not, with muscle for brain.

Dekar: Ha! Look who's talking! You're inside the trap and I'm not. Now who's the thinker?

Narcysus Woman #3: He's right! I believe in Sir Dekar.

Dekar: Thank you, thank you so much. You just made me invincible! [faces off with Idura] Come on, Idura. I am perfectly ready!

Idura [sighs with remorse]: 'Tis my loss. As you are now, there is no way I can win. The girls are yours.

[The cage receded back into the floor]

Dekar: Hmm, since you're a fast learner and since I'm a nice guy, I'll let you live. Now beat it!

[Idura disappears]

Dekar [to the freed captives]: As I promised, ladies, you are safe now.

Narcysus Woman #3: Oh, Sir Dekar...

[At that moment, the cage rises once again]

Dekar: Oh, darn it!

Narcysus Woman #3: ......

Guy [to Dekar]: you're just not real swift, are you!?

Dekar [goes to Guy in anger]: What did you say!? You were the one who fell for the trap!

Guy: And where do you think YOU are now!?

[Idura reappears, for he'd never left the tower in the first place]

Idura [looks triumphant]: Easy! So easy.

Guy: I hate it! I just hate so see dumb Idura so proud of nothing! Oh, my blood boils!

Idura: Ha, ha, ha!

Dekar: Humph! Don't think you're so smart because you trapped us in this shabby cage!

Idura: The spell Escape is blocked inside the cage. To wit, you cannot get out using magic.

Dekar: So who need magic?

Idura: What do you mean?

Dekar [behind him]: Ladies, would you kindly step aside?

[Narcysus Woman #1 steps aside. Dekar backs up and rams into the cage full force]

Idura [almost rolling on the floor]: Waah! Ha, ha, ha! You've finally lost it! Ha, ha, ha!

[Dekar rams into the cage two more times]

Idura [mocking his enemy]: Ha! Forget it! You can't break that!

[A fourth Dekar ram sends the bars flying]

Idura [in shock]: Huh!?

Dekar: You'd better make your cage a little stronger next time, eh!

[Maxim, Selan, and Guy join Dekar in confronting Idura]

Guy: The game's over. Here we go!

[The group does battle with Idura once more and defeat him again]

Idura: Agrrrrh!!

[Idura warps from the tower, and the cage finally lowers for good]

Dekar: He flees faster than anyone I know.

Narcysus Woman #3: Thank you so much.

Dekar: I could only do that because you had faith in me.

[A voice calls out from the back]

Voice: Marsa!

[Narcysus Woman #3 turns to see her sailor coming to her, the same one the group met earlier in Narcysus]

Marsa: Kreg!

Kreg: Are you alright, Marsa?

Marsa: Yes, I'm fine. I knew you would come, Kreg!

Kreg: Of course. Let's go back.

[Kreg and Marsa leave for Narcysus, and another man from Narcysus enters the room]

Narcysus Man #1: Emily!

[Narcysus Woman #2 goes to the man]

Emily: I was so scared.

Narcysus Man #1: You're alright now.

[Emily and Narcysus Man #1 leave, and another man appears]

Narcysus Man #2: Kaila!

[Narcysus Woman #1 goes to him]

Kaila: I was thinking of nothing but you.

Narcysus Man #2: Same here... Let's return to the city.

[The couple leaves, and the remaining girl, the youngest one, goes to Dekar]

Narcysus Girl: Sir Dekar, thank you so much. Because you saved me, I can...be your bride.

Dekar [flattered, but concerned]: Really? But...

[Before Dekar can finish, a young voice calls from the back]

Voice: Lulu!

[Narcysus Girl turns to see Narcysus Boy come to her]

Lulu: Iyan!

Iyan: I was so worried about you, Lulu. Are you ok?

Lulu: Yes. [turns to Dekar] I'm sorry, Sir Dekar. I forgot I'm already engaged to Iyan. Goodbye!

[Iyan and Lulu run from the tower, leaving Dekar a bachelor once more]

Dekar: Men in battle do not need women! My love is my sword!

[The others walk some distance from Dekar]

Selan: Let's leave him alone for a while. But Maxim...

Maxim: I know. It's what Idura said, right?

Guy: The resurrection of Gades and the four Sinistrals on the move, right?

Maxim [pensive]: When we fought Gades at the West Tower in Gordovan, he called himself a Sinistral.

Guy: So you think there are three other Sinistrals like Gades?

Maxim: I don't know. But Idura said that people would soon know about the four Sinistrals.

Selan: They'll finally show themselves to us.

Maxim: Yeah.

[Dekar rejoins the group]

Dekar: Whether they are Sinistrals or just garbage, I'll defeat them all! I am invincible!

Maxim [not quite agreeing with Dekar's self-assesment] Ye...yeah, you're right. Let's go back to Narcysus now, anyway.

[The group left the tower and returned to Narcysus to rest. The freed women were very grateful. One said a woman was talking to Idura when they arrived. The aforementioned woman left for Karlloon, so she said. A couple of townspeople also said Idura was headed for Karlloon. They also heard about Lexis, the inventor from Treadool, for the first time.]

[The group left Narcysus and headed east for Karlloon. There, they learn a strange couple headed for the shrine north of town. When they did, a strange light flew into the shrine. Many said the light was a super being. The group headed for the shrine. They quickly make it through to encounter Idura once more, but the sorcerer wasn't the same. His smirk was gone, to be replaced with a look of complete shame and despair]

Idura: Every time I tried to do something, you were in my way. Now I have no place to go.

Maxim: What do you mean?

Idura [bowing his head]: Sir Amon will not forgive me anymore.

Maxim: Amon?

Idura: One of the four Sinistrals, Master of Chaos. Sir Amon trusted me as his servant. Thanks to you, I have lost his trust. [raises his head and looks vengefully at the party] I have nothing to lose. But I cannot let you live! Say your goodbyes!

[The party fights Idura once more and beats him. This time, it looks final. Idura gives them a grim, vengeful smile, much like Gades did back at the Ancient Tower]

Idura: You will not escape this shrine ... Ha, ha, ha, ha!

[Idura passes away, and the door behind him opens. Curious, the group goes through it. In the next room, they find Iris]

Maxim: Iris? Why are you here?

Iris: Idura caught me.

Maxim: but why you? Why did Idura kidnap you?

Iris: I do not know. Anyway, thank you so much for helping me.

Maxim: Well, I'm glad you're ok. Let's get out of this place. Selan, please.

Selan: Alright. Escape!

[The party disappears, but reappears in the same spot]

Selan: It's blocked.

Dekar: It's Idura. He had to do such a slimy thing before he left!

Guy: We have no choice. Let's walk down.

[Guy heads for the door, when the room shakes]

Maxim: Wh...what!?

Guy: The shrine is collapsing!

Dekar: So this is Idura's final hurrah, huh!? He can be surprising, I guess.

Selan: Come on, we have to do something. Escape's blocked, for heaven's sake!

Dekar: What can we do?

Iris: There must be some sort of device which is blocking the spell.

[Everyone turns to Iris]

Dekar: How do you figure that?

Iris: Idura is dead, but magic works. That means something must be generating the magic.

Dekar: Could be.

Maxim: Alright. Let's find out what.

[The group heads under the shrine to reach a small room. In the back they see a black crystal orb on a pedestal, similar to the one in the cave north of Merix]

Iris: That ball might be the device!

Dekar: Alright. All I have to do is break it, huh!

[Dekar and Iris rush to the pedestal holding the orb]

Iris: Break this ball and Escape will no longer be blocked.

Dekar: Ok. I'll break it. [gets some distance] Here we go!

[Dekar rams the pedestal and smashes the orb into crystal shards]

Iris [smiles at Dekar's delicate touch]: It's a wild way of doing it, but the blockage seems to be gone.

Dekar: Well, let's get out of here.

[A monster appears from nowhere and blindsides Dekar]

Iris: Hey, Dekar!

Dekar [slumping slightly]: Darn it! I...I wasn't paying attention...

[A horde of strong monsters led by the vengeance-crazed spirit of Idura appear]

Idura: You people are not going back alive!!

Dekar [in total disbelief]: You live!?

Idura [beyond reason]: Ha, ha, ha, ha!! FAREWELL!!!

Dekar [to Iris]: Go, go, go! Get out of here!

[The monsters surround Dekar, and the shrine begins to break up]

Maxim [shouting over the explosions]: Dekar! Hold on! I'll be right there!

[The explosions get louder...]

Dekar: No! The shrine's not going to last that long. Go! Go, Maxim!

[...and more violent...]

Maxim: Do you think I can leave you like this!?

[...and more destructive...]

Dekar: The shrine will be gone before it's over! Iris! Take them back with you...NOW!

[...and ever so closer to the group]

Iris [trying to protest with unshed tears in her eyes]: Bu...but...

Dekar [implacable]: I said GO!!!!

[Iris runs to the others]

Iris: Escape!

[The others teleport out, leaving Dekar to fight alone in the fiery deathtrap]

Dekar: Idura! I'll follow you to the ends of the earth!

[The shrine begins to disintegrate around them as they battle]

[Meanwhile, the others materialize at the edge of Karlloon. They all grieve for their fallen comrade]

Maxim [head bowed]: Dekar...

Selan [tears in her helpless eyes]: No, it can't be true, that Dekar couldn't...

Guy [trying to cheer the others with little success]: He'll be ok! Dumb people always make it through alright.

Iris [sorrowful]: I am sorry. I shouldn't have used Escape so soon.

Maxim [disagrees]: No. If you hadn't used the magic, we all would have been lost.

Iris [turning away with grief]: ......

[Iris walks from the others, and Maxim goes halfway to her]

Maxim: Where are you going?

[Iris turns her grieving face to him]

Iris: To pray for Dekar... That's the only thing I can do now. [Leaves the town with an air of sadness behind her]

Guy: What are we going to do now, Maxim?

Maxim [returns to Guy with resolve]: Continue on our journey. Sinistrals or not, we're going to get them!

[End Part Four]
