Xenogears
is an RPG that takes place in a space-aged war torn world. About 10,000 years
ago a battleship called the Eldridge was mysteriously attacked by an unknown
creature on board it and crashed down to the planet of the Xenogears game ( I
don’t think the planet has a name but it’s not Xenogears that is the name
of something else later on ). The game begins with the Solaris and Kislev gear
forces getting into a brawl near the village of Lahan.
You control a ( 20 ? ) year old named Fei Fong Wong. He is right at the
middle of the action and is deeply effected by the incident at Lahan. He is
thought to be the cause of what happened to Lahan and gets thrown out.
Thereafter you meet Elly Van Houghton, a young officer in the Solarian army.
But the two have something very odd in common.
Xenogears has a very deep and religious story with LOTS of plot twists
and characters. It runs long, about 70 hours, but it’s my favorite game
ever. It has a pretty good battle interface with a combo system and ether
attacks. You can also fight with large mech-like things called gears, they
play an important role in the story.
The music is done by Yasinori Mitsuda and lives up to his name. It has
great orchestrations and good melodies. The game also sounds pretty good so
you can play it loud if you have a surround reciever. The anime’ movies are
pretty good clarity and all too. Although the voice acting could match the lip
movement a BIT better, I could have done a better job.
The graphics are clean and all but they’re nothing compared to
anything past about 1999. All in all I give this game a 9.5
out of 10.
