Wild
Arms was the first true RPG for the Playstation. It is also to this day among
the best games ever made. It has a superb story to many games, the best
soundtrack of all time, and many good characters and character backgrounds
that play large roles in the story.
You
start off as Rudy Roughknight, a 16 year old living in Surf Village (no, they
don’t actually surf). You follow a troublesome kid into a mine and end up
releasing a sealed monster and causing an earthquake on
the village and are banned. This is bar far not the story though. After
that you eventually get into the real story. You meet up with a scientist
named Emma who informs you of the demons plaguing the planet of Filgiea and
that the Guardians (similar to espers and guardian forces) of the planet have
all died of leaving the planet vulnerable. You must gather a group of people
and stop them.
This game bar far has the best game soundtrack of
all time and will always have the best. About 15-20 of the songs are fully
orchestrated and feature excellent melodies. The dungeon and town themes are
nice too, but the battle themes get a bit old. The graphics are a bit like
Lunar’s but more polished and feature 3D battles.
Being the Wild Arms series fan that I am I say that more people need to
play them, Final Fantasy is over rated and steals the spotlight from the
little guys like Contrail, Game Arts and Tri-Ace. I give Wild Arms a 9.0 out of 10.0.
