Brave
Fencer Musashi, at the time, was a saving grace for the Playstation. At that
time everyone had just finished playing through Final Fantasy VII and Final
Fantasy Tactics and needed something to hold them over for Parasite Eve,
Xenogears, and Final Fantasy VIII.
First
of all I have to say that this is a great game, but it focuses its attention
to that of a twelve-year-old boy. This game reminds me of a cross of Zelda and
Digimon, but far better than both tripled together. The graphics were
outstanding for early 1998. Fully 3D rotatable environments with an action-RPG
interface mix for a fun combo.
The
story is mediocre, it’s basically about a nine year old boy being summoned
into a different dimension by the Allucaneat (oh yeah, this game also features
many kooky names) kingdom who are in a war with some pretty bad folks.
Thirstquencher Empire wants to take over the world and release the evil Dark
Wizard Lumina to take vengeance on the world. So basically Musashi goes around
collecting scrolls and making the sword Lumina more powerful and getting
legendary armor to defeat the Thirstquencher Empire and restore peace to the
kingdom of Allucaneat.
The
music has some really nice melodies in it and some catchy tunes as well. The
Sound effects are nice and dynamic, and there is decent voice acting on key
events (most of the game). I guarantee that anyone who plays this will be
happy with it, but like I said it was made for a ten to twelve year old in
mind so there’s lots of kooky stuff and minimal cussing etc. I give Brave
Fencer Musashi a 7.5 out of 10.0
